Ten Nineteen Twenty Twenty

In Memory of a Friend

Collaboration with Arrin Sutliff made on Ten Nineteen Twenty Twenty. Florals by Arrin combined with dyed textiles from An. The orange color palette, dyed with marigold flowers, is in honor of Kaleena Porter.

This private installation took place on October 19, 2020, three years after Kaleena was killed in a motorcycle accident, as a project of personal healing and remembrance. To process her emotions on this anniversary, An wanted to spend the day working with her textiles and enlisted Arrin to create two marigold centerpieces. Pulling in various marigold dyed fabrics, An surrounded the live floral arrangements with the flowing panels, capturing ephemeral interactions between the flowers and fabric on camera.

This project is about the act of making and creating as a way for the living to mourn and honor lost ones. The marigold flowers in this installation were dried by the artists and will be used as dyestuff for future textiles, giving second life to the plant matter.

Early Work in Synthetic Dyeing

Early experiments with fiber reactive dyes on silk, cotton, recycled jersey materials. These pieces created the foundation of interest in the dyeing practice and was the bridge that led her to working exclusively with natural fibers and materials.
