To Dye For | Indigo Dye Party at Milk Bar Flagship
To Dye For | Indigo Dye Party — this event came to fruition after many meetups with Eliza, from Lil Bits Cloth, and Morgan, from Wild Sky Studio. We formed our small dye collective in the late winter, meeting every week or so in one another’s studios or at a neighborhood bakery to talk dyestuff and process over pastries. We wanted to host a workshop that was informative, fun, and welcoming to all. So we thought: “Let’s throw a party — a really, really big indigo dye party.” Thankfully, Milk Bar Flagship in Logan Circle was down with the concept and let us use their beautiful classroom as our venue.
Despite record breaking temperatures, just under forty people came out to learn about the indigo plant, the process behind extracting the celebrated blue color, and a variety of Shibori folding techniques. We demonstrated how to create an indigo vat and let everyone create their own bandana in one of four vats.
